What this specialty is
Heme-onc physicians manage solid tumors and hematologic malignancies, plus benign hematology (anemias, clotting disorders). Increasingly subspecialized by tumor type. Practice mix is mostly outpatient infusion clinic with inpatient consults; bone marrow transplant is a separate sub-fellowship.
Lifestyle & practice
Fellowship hours 55 to 65. Attending 50 to 60, mostly clinic. Compensation $450k to $600k.
